Everything you need to know about the AES+
Neo Geo AES is coming back as a modern cartridge-compatible console for players and collectors.

A real new Neo Geo, not just another mini console
The AES+ is positioned by SNK and PLAION Replai as a hardware rebirth of the Neo Geo AES. The key point is simple: it is not presented as software emulation, but as a hardware-faithful reimplementation powered by re-engineered ASIC chips. For collectors, that distinction matters: this is not only a nostalgia object, but a console built around AES cartridges.
The three announced packages
PLAION Replai lists three main configurations, all available as pre-orders, with release and shipping scheduled to start on 12 November 2026.
- NEOGEO AES+: €199.99. The base package includes the NEOGEO AES+ console, one wired arcade stick, an HDMI cable and the power supply.
- NEOGEO AES+ Anniversary Edition: €299.99. A white anniversary edition with the white console, white wireless arcade stick, white Metal Slug cartridge, white memory card, 15-pin wireless dongle, arcade stick cables, HDMI cable and power supply.
- NEOGEO AES+ Ultimate Edition: €899.99. A numbered premium box with the console, wired arcade stick, wireless arcade stick, wireless gamepad, memory card, cables, a game rack and the ten launch cartridges.
The ten games in the Ultimate Edition
The Ultimate Edition line-up is Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Big Tournament Golf, Shock Troopers, Samurai Shodown V Special, Pulstar, Twinkle Star Sprites, Magician Lord and Over Top.
Modern quality-of-life upgrades
The AES+ keeps the original spirit while adding what modern players expect: low-latency HDMI, 1080p output, AV output for CRT fans, DIP switches for language, display modes and overclocking, plus permanent high-score saves through the memory card. The accessories follow the same idea, mixing faithful design with wired and wireless options.
Why collectors are paying attention
The original Neo Geo AES has always been a premium dream: arcade hardware at home, but at a very high price in the early 1990s. The AES+ brings that promise back with announced compatibility for new AES+ cartridges and original AES cartridges. If production and availability hold up, it could reshape interest around Neo Geo physical games, variants and values.
What still needs watching
The real questions are availability, final controller quality, compatibility in the wild, and the future game catalogue. Ten launch games make a strong first wave, but Neo Geo is much bigger than ten titles. The absence of Blazing Star, Magical Drop III or Waku Waku 7 already makes the next waves worth watching.
